How it works

The romance of unhealthy foods is powerful, as evidenced by the 65 percent of Europeans who struggle daily with being overweight and obese. Butitis essentialto break the cycle of dependence on saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, and excess caffeine and alcohol. Research going back decades, has shown us that we can not only be healthier, but actually reverse even severe chronic disease by changing to a plant-based diet.

In addition to breaking the cycle of cravings of foods that undermine your health, just three days of a juice cleanse can do so much more! Here a few of the undisputed benefits of significant health enhancements you can obtain with a proper juice cleanse program.

Ease food decision-making

Juicing focuses on consuming fresh whole food produce every few hours and reduces the enslavement of thinking constantly about what the next meal is going to be. Not only do we feel sated, but realise we are no longer slaves to our addictions with (often very harmful) foods.

Floods our body with super nutrition

Being on an all-produce diet gives us not only the vitamins and minerals but the all-important phytonutrients that are powerhouses for the clean- up and healing process. Juices are by nature raw foods and retain nutrients that would be destroyed by cooking, including some B vitamins and especially (digestive and anti-inflammatory) enzymes.

Lose Weight

As you are feeling better and having more energy, you also naturally lose weight. Some of this is water bloat, but also some is fat. A juice cleanse (three days minimum) is a great way to jump start a diet. It not only helps control appetite and cravings, but is naturally lower in calories, while supplying the body with probably more concentrated beneficial energizing and healing nutrients than it has seen before.

Reduce physical problems

You begin to feel generally better, not just with your energy, but with many chronic symptoms such as headaches, rashes, general aches, congested sinuses and chest, and bloating/cramping/gas. Too much of the time our body is fighting off the things we do to it (especially with food but also with lack of sleep, inactivity and stress). Take a break, rest the body (and mind) and flood it with nutrients.

Allow maximum detoxification

To optimally support all phases of the body’s natural detox process, you need a very broad range of plant-supplied nutrients like anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories. By providing the body with super-nutrient dense foods juicing allows the body to have more of the resources it needs to support the phases of detoxification, and even to begin to help remove the cumulative toxins stored in the body—130 industrial chemicals on average in a European person’s bloodstream.

Heal our cells

Switching to an fresh, plant-based diet allows cells to work optimally to re-establish efficient internal messaging and manufacturing processes, allowing the mitochondria to create energy without having to fight off a plethora of free radicals, inflammation, and reducing some of the impediments to proper DNA functioning.

Am I allowed water or tea?

Of course! You need to always add as much liquids as possible. You need to finish your daily cleanse by 9pm so you aren’t up all night visiting the lavatory and disturbing your sleep. For best results Coconut water, and herbal decaf tea’s are strongly recommended.

Can I not eat at all during the cleanse?

You can just try to have all your juices and soups consumed first. The first day is the hardest so if you must eat, try something small like nuts or boiled eggs. If you do have an unexpectedly busy week in work, training, etc, and you find yourself struggling a little, it’s best to have a small meal, again eggs, fresh salad, baked fish, avocados or bananas are ideal.

Will the weight jump back on as soon as I start to eat again?

No once you ensure to gradually introduce solid food back into your digestion. Be mindful that, based our your diet before the cleanse, your salivation glands maybe hyperactive once they taste solid food again, so for some people it maybe tempting to over indulge. This is the part of the diet that takes true discipline. When you do start to eat solids again make sure to digest your meal slowly and take regular breaks in between bits. Your stomach may have shrunk over the course of the diet, which for most people is a good thing, so make sure to eat small meals for the first few days.

What preparation should I do before and after the cleanse?

This is area is really vital to ensure a smooth transition on your cleanse. Ideally no alcohol 7 days before you start, and no processed food 3 days before you start (or at all ideally). We advise you to keep your exercise routine light over the course of your detox, and again use your common sense and listen to your body and your energy levels. When you finish the cleanse, your stomach will have shrunk naturally, so try stay away from processed food, starchy carbs (bread, biscuits, chips) and try to consume soups, salads, bananas, eggs into your diet routine for the following 5-7 days.

Am I allowed to drink coffee?

Preferably not, or if you really must you can make it a decaf coffee. You can also try herbal teas, Decaf Green, white tea, Matcha or Rooibos tea. Also coconut water, and regular filtered water is strongly advised but definitely no fizzy drinks or caffeine if you can.

After your cleanse, you can return to eating three meals a day, but continue to have at least one juice if possible.
Whether it’s a 3 or a 5 day cleanse you’ve just completed, it’s important to ease you was back into a normal eating pattern so that you maintain your results. We recommend you follow a whole grain, plant based diet for 5 days post cleanse. This involves eating foods that are minimally processed and in their purest form as much as possible.

The following foods are recommended:
- whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes

In Moderation:
- nuts, seeds, avocados, good quality unprocessed oils, natural sweetness and unprocessed tofu (avoid any processed soy products)

- Animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs
- Heavily processed foods and grains such as white rice, white flour, foods containing added sugars or artificial sweeteners and foods containing added processed fats.

Make sure you maintain protein levels through beans and pulses, grains such as brown rice and quinoa and small amounts of nuts and tofu.

Nut milks are allowed but check the container to make sure there are no hidden additives.

Drink plenty of water and herbal teas. Avoid caffeine for these 5 days.

After these 5 days are up we recommend re-introducing your regular diet back in slowly. Stick with whole foods and plants as much as possible and continue to avoid processed foods on an ongoing basis. You can start to re-introduce coffee back into your diet but continue to eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible. Maintain drinking 2 litres of water each day.
